reasons I have heard given:
Our code is not good enough to open source. (very very true)
We want to maintain control over the direction of our code -- if we OS it,
we may lose control.
No-one else wants our code anyway, so we would be putting effort in (to
implement open source) with no benefit, as no-one else would contribute.
and so on...
Note that there are good reasons why each of these is wrong, and I've tried,
but no-one really cares (and in reality, why should they?)...

PS do you do anything apart from post to this (and your other
well-publicised) list(s)? Sometimes I think I spend too much time on here,
but ...
