Well, this is what I saw on this web page:
http://www.isc.org/products/BIND/bind-security.html
--------------------------------------------------------
Upgrading to BIND version 9.1 is strongly recommended.
If that is not possible for your site, upgrading at least to
BIND version 8.2.3 is imperative.
-------------------------------------------------------
That's the reason I chose 9.1.
In fact, I think anyone else but me _should_ go for 9.1.
And I will use it myself when I build my new
firewall/server machine.
In the meantime, I've wiped 9.1 and used 8.2.3 instead.
By the way, does anyone have any comment on the suitability
of using an old laptop as a 24 hour machine?
Last time I was overseas, my 24-hour machine was down for
3 days due to a power cut (10-13 January 2001).
I had to spend an hour on the phone with a non-comp-scientist
to get my home machines through the fsck process
and I lost 2 months of log files.
My choices for better reliability are:
1. UPS unit.
2. Laptop with, say, 2.5 hours battery life.
3. Collocation with someone who's got better electricity.
Any hints on the bext way to go?
Cheers,
Alan Kennington.
