Re: Rpm dependency

People are going to encounter these libc problems more frequently - at
least until most are using systems which use glibc 2.2.

If you're running a system which uses glibc 2.1.x (and the majority of
distros are - main exceptions are RedHat 7.0, Debian unstable/testing)
then when downloading binary packages you want to look for ones which
have been compiled on systems running glibc 2.1.x (IIRC x=~2,3).

If you run into packages which are not done this way you might want to
email whoever made the packages available and point them towards the
Linux Development Platform Specification (LDPS -
http://www.freestandards.org/ldps) which contains guidelines for
people wanting to create binary packages that will work on the widest
range of Linux distributions.

In most cases using binaries compiled against glibc 2.1.x will work
fine on systems running glibc 2.2.
