unknown services

i have the following services running on my linux machine:
Port       State       Service 
25/tcp     open        smtp 
53/tcp     open        domain 
631/tcp    open       unknown 
1024/tcp   open      kdm 
1025/tcp   open      listen 
6000/tcp   open      X11    

i hope the formatting didn't change...

i dont think i need all of these... im not even sure what these are (other 
then the smpt server)

can anyone give me a little on each of these and explaine if i need them - 
and what for?

i ran through the DrakeConf - Start-Up Services and am not sure if i can 
remove them in fear of something going wrong.
