Boo-Hoo! Gnome took my packages.rpm

Super - I got a nice sorted list. 
Unfortunately rpm -qia |sort > myprogs gave a list sorted sentence by
sentence, which wasn't quite what I had in mind!

I wish you hadn't told me!  (Boo-Hoo!)
I visited /var/lib/rpm and tried to look at packages.rpm.  At that point the
gnome file manager crashed and converted packages.rpm to a zero-length file.
The file doesn't appear to be on the RH6.2 disk.
Is there any way I can get packages.rpm back?  Is it important, anyway?
