Im not sure if you mean the Micro$oft .NET or something else.
But I do know that the MS .NET is basically a blatant conceptual copy of
Java.

For example, they use MSIL (MS Independant Langauge) which correlates to
Java bytecodes, they use Objective C as the textual language, and they have
virtual machines for all platforms to run the MSIL on.

These are only some of the many correlations that can be found between Java
and .NET .  For some reason I tend to forget the Micro$oft side a lot.

Maybe we're both right and I have only part of the picture and you have
another?
