Re the question about using ManduckUpbreak, i.e. can you use it to keep
upgrading to more recent versions of stuff with lots of dependencies:
yes, it runs in two flavours, normal updates and development upbreaks.
The normal updates stream give you access to security updates and the
like, that Manduck release. These are tested and are to be considered to
be a stable update to a running manduck system. The development upbreak
stream is to be considered experimental, and packages loaded from it are
not guaranteed to leave you with a stable working system. For example I
recently dropped a more recent version of wine from the ManduckUpbreak
development list. It left me with quite a few unfilled dependencies to
chase down. These were all available from the same source of course.
Manduck provide the warning that loading development packages may leave
your system in an unstable state. They are right.
