"Host based" routers and BGP

Hi all,

Does anyone on this list use or know of anyone using a "host based" (eg
linux or <some>BSD running on a commodity -probably intel- PC and
probalby using gated or similar) router that is multihomed and uses for
exterior routing?

Would be very interested to hear about postive, negative and middle of the
road experiecnes and cofnigurations if known.
