You must certainly have considerable Unix expertise if you ran Linux in
1992.

Incidentally, Linux has never run on a 286. Certainly in 1992 it only ran
on 386s. An embeddable subset of Linux (ELKS) will run on 80x86, for x <
3. Maybe that's what you were running. I think it first booted in 1998/9.
