Broadband options in SA (was Re: ADSL talk suggestion)

Domestically? Not a lot - Cable isn't availble from either Optus
or Telstra (yet) - although Telstra have made press releases to the
effect that they intend to replace their existing cable network with
a new DOCSIS based system from Cisco...
This means they may open up in Adelaide and Perth on the existing
cable infrastructure they have here.
However, one of the other factors is the fact that Foxtel no longer
need to use the Telstra cable in Australia to deliver pay TV, in fact,
they refuse to, insisting on a small satellite dish.
Obviously a dish is cheaper for them, considering their contract
with Telstra has run out (ie: they've sold their million homes on
cable, now they can bug out and use cheaper satellite feeds).

So it's ADSL or bust for Adelaide (in the short term at least) IMHO.
Commercially, that's a whole other story, lots of buildings and
office complexes in the CBD are being wired with Ethernet based
Internet delivery on a daily basis - broadband to the desktop in
serviced offices, incubators and the like. Lots of options from
many different ISPs/telcos - depending on which building you chose :)
Cheers
Leigh
