MS warns against naked PCs
Since the linuxSA mailing list has gone quiet for
a few hours, I thought I might post this little item
on the dangers of naked PCs:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/14955.html
The propaganda war is heating up, looks like.
The emotional langauge from MS is a bit extreme.
If you're under 18, you might like to give this
one a miss.
And here are the MS items:

http://www.microsoft.com/OEM/nakedPC.htm
Of course this is designed to stop dealers from selling PCs
for use with linux.
I bought a laptop a year ago, and the dealer insisted
on selling me an old $50 wind95, although the laptop
was second-hand.
Cheers,
Alan Kennington.

PS.
By the way, about once a week or so on average,
someone in the domain microsoft.com browses through
my web pages - especially the linux.html file!
Here's a small sample.
Linux links:
tide86.microsoft.com - - [22/Nov/2000:17:48:56 +1030] "GET /linux.html HTTP/1.0" 200 79509

Open source licences:

MP3 files:

Australian trees!:

Palm organizer software:
tide88.microsoft.com - - [06/Nov/2000:15:58:16 +1030] "OPTIONS /palmsoft.html HTTP/1.0" 200 -
tide91.microsoft.com - - [05/Nov/2000:03:48:17 +1030] "GET /src/palm/aknp1/README.html HTTP/1.0" 200 11390
Open source network monitoring software:
tide78.microsoft.com - - [26/Oct/2000:23:10:57 +0930] "GET /netmon.html HTTP/1.0" 200 10825
Australian snowfields:
tide23.microsoft.com - - [24/Oct/2000:10:08:29 +0930] "GET /snow.html HTTP/1.0" 200 2119
My one and only Apache module:
tide77.microsoft.com - - [20/Oct/2000:06:33:16 +0930] "GET /src/bwshare/README.html HTTP/1.0" 200 19746
etc. etc.
I'm a little surprised that MS people are taking such an interest
in open source and linux sorts of things.
The strongest interest from MS is in the open source
network monitoring tools.
So expect to see some new "intergration" of network monitoring
tools into MS software some time soon!
I'm pretty sure these are MS employees, because after one
spate of browsing, I was contacted by the MS employee doing the
browsing. He was working on bluetooth....
