Not to mention, when using that other OS as the gateway or direct
connection, the joys of having to reconnect when Netscape, Explorer or
something else brings the machine down.
You can usually leave a little 486 quietly in a corner somewhere and do
whatever you like on the other machines on your network, like installing
new OS's, rebooting for games, file leach on one, chat on another and web
on another yet again. The whole family can join in.
The firewall machine might even make a good print server, and depending
on your needs and security requirements a Squid cache.
Dale.
