Problem with CD RECORD

I am currently experiencing problems when using cdrecord under red hat linux
6.2.

During the burn process (after creating an iso9660 filesystem) cdrecord
fails at a random point.
I increased the verbosity level (-V) and the system seems to work fine.

Have run it through a couple of times, increased verbosity = working, normal
verbosity = crashing.

I was fairly sure it was a hardware error until the verbosity switch seemed
to "cure" it.

Does anyone have any ideas.
