Hi Michael

Which distribution are you using.

Redhat has this option if you use there config script in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
Debian has a file call ppp_on_boot in /etc/ppp/ which you configure to do
this.

General all the distribution I have seen as a system build in to there
startup script which does this job.
Also I believe that if a distribution has this feature it should be used,
obviously if it does not work correctly then !!
