Re: how to build linux kernel 2.3.99-pre9

My apologies for that.

I've now been quite quickly informed (by the usually
not fantastically useful linux-ATM mob) that in fact
when building a kernel, one has to tell the software
that the CPU is not a Pentium Pro.

I'm so used to the linux distributions working out
everything for themselves (including what you would
like for breakfast, whether you have coffee or tea,
with milk or without...), that I just overlooked
the menu section about choice of CPU.

Cheers, and sorry for the inconvenience,
Alan Kennington.

PS. I imagine everyone has read about the
"serious bug in the linux kernel" by now.
Could someone please work out if this is one of
those bugs that we can ignore or whether we need
to immediately get a new kernel before the
bad hackers write a "r00t shellz" kit for it?
And when you work out the answer, could you please
post it here.....
The reports are in slashdot, Linux Today etc.
