You could use the sync program to write anything into memory from
disk
maybe cron sync to run every so often
more info using 'man sync' or 'info sync'

Subject: Protecting files against power failure
If my memory serves me correctly, I remember reading somewhere that
there was a method to decrease the cap in the time things are stored
in cache and actually written to the filesystem. I've had several
messy power downs, all of which have resulted in lost files.
Is there any way I can decrease the probablity of files being
removed due to not being able to shut-down properly??
