BIND
Here's an interesting question that I can't quite work out the answer
too. I have manged to setup BIND 8.2.[a number] on my system. It works
perfectly and finds name for me on the Internet without haivng to fall
back on another name server (i.e. in /etc/resolv.conf, nameserver
0.0.0.0 is sufficient).
The question is the following:
i have the setup of /etc/resolv.conf of
nameserver 0.0.0.0
#nameserver 203.20.69.66
it works
If I uncomment the hash, will my LOCAL nameserver cache a reply from
203. That is to say, obviously when I start up my PPP connection, my
local nameserver has little to no cache (I think). Hence when I first
start up name service is slightly but not really that noticeably slower
until I resolve the names I usually go to. It's particularly noticeable
when there are a lot of banner ad links because my name server has to go
find a query for the whole lot of them/
i.e. will my nameserver cache ANY valid reply OR will my nameserver only
cache replies IT has gotten itself....
