I have exactly the same problem with RH6.1.  I ended up disabling the Virus 
detector in the BIOS, or you could do a fdisk  /mbr and remove lilo that 
fixes the problem, but then you would have to use a boot disc to access 
linux, a valid option if it's not your primary OS.
