Debian dpkg status file

Hi,

Is there any way of rebuilding the dpkg status (/var/lib/dpkg/status) file?
It's just I almost lost it recently (thank goodness for automatic backups) 
and was wondering if there was a way of getting dpkg to rebuild it.
