I think you'll find this is a parport_pc issue (I can't be 100% sure,
as my printer is attached to a 6.0 machine at the moment).  I have the
following in my /etc/conf.modules on my 6.1 machine:

alias	parport_lowlevel parport_pc
options	parport_pc io=0x378 irq=7
