Heh: Depending on how you number your SCSI host adaptors, and if
the DAT is in an internal enclosure, you could actually plug the DAT
drive into *both* machines:

            external SCSI cables
      +--------------+ +----------------+
      | | | |
  +---+---+ +-+-+-+ +---+---+
  | host1 | | DAT | | host2 |
  +-------+ +-----+ +-------+

Change the host adaptor SCSI ID on one of the hosts to an unused ID
and they can actually share the same bus.

Warning: If two hosts try to mount the same disk device, kernel panics
and filesystem corruption will probably occur when one host modifies
disk data without any form of cache coherency with the other. But a
shared tape device should be fine...

I tried an internal modem, newton@atdot.dotat.org
but it hurt when I walked. Mark Newton
