X Woes [worse than Windows]

OK. Here's a Windows Style problem. Yesterday my delte key (aboeve the
enter on my QWERTY ketyboard) worked. It delted keys to the left of 
cursor. Today it deletes keys from the right of the cursor (i.e.the del
(. on nmeric pad) key   function). It doesn't change back. I've turned
off the computer, done this  done that but not changed a single thijng.
So where's the !@@#$#%$%@%!@# key gone?
