APM

Hello Everybody,

I'm a newbie to Linux and LinuxSA. I've just recently installed RedHat 6.0
Linux on my trusty old 486DX2-66 (I had to purchase an additional 4.3G HD
(the smallest drive I could get) to be able to do this). I did this because
I know a little about Unix and DOS and it seemed to me that these are
proper multiuser/tasking operating systems that beat "MS Windows"
handsdown, particularly now that the X interface is so well developed. But
I'm mainly interested in writing my own C programs (I am an
Analyst/Programmer by trade).
I'm currently not using the X windows interface, preferring to drive the
box using the command line. (Does this make me a geek? :-)

I have a question about booting up the box: During startup, at the tail
end, I see a message about a service (Woops! NT talk!) that's [FAILED] to
start. It's name is APM. I haven't the faintest clue what this means to me,
my machine or the universe.

Can anyone fill me in?

While you're at it, can anyone point me in the right direction for some
*relevant* reading/tutorial material on C programming for Linux? I've seen
a lot of stuff on the net, but it's mostly incomplete, inaccurate or not
relevant to Linux. (Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places ...)

Thanks in advance and, Sorry for the long intro email :-)

Regards,
