Re: sendmail problem

David,

Multiple thanks for that.
Could you tell me, though, which version of sendmail you use?
I've already conluded from

http://www.orbs.org/otherresources.cgi

that sendmail 8.8.7 is unsalvageable.
But I've got redhat 5.2 on this machine, and I don't
have any intention of re-installing the OS on this machine
ever. It's a 24/7 machine.

So I've decided to build 8.9.3 on my RH 5.2 machine
(the RPMs at
ftp://admin.netus.com/sendmail/ were no good because they
need later lib files).

Now I've built sendmail 8.9.3 on the RH5.2 machine, and
I've even checked the PGP signature on the files
(from http://www.sendmail.org/current-release.html ).

So now I've got to the next stage. I need to know:

1.	Is it safe to install the new sendmail
over the top of the old sendmail 8.8.7?
2.	Am I going to be in for several days of
angst and woe resulting from having to
	configure/modify/adapt the sendmail.cf file
and all the database files that seem to be
	associated with sendmail 8.9.3?

In the absence of info to the contrary, I'll now proceed to
try to install the new sendmail while permitting a
fall-back to the old stuff (8.8.7) if I can't get
the new stuff (8.9.3) going in an amount of time
that does not contravene my human rights to
not suffer unnatural stress.

Cheerio,
Alan Kennington.
