re: andrew o'callaghan's modem mystery

Thanks to everyone who responded to my plea about my modem problems. I think
I have solved the problem. Essentially, I think the reason I could not get pppd
working was because I followed the instructions of my isp and created the file
/etc/ppp/options with their specifics. When I removed this file, pppd worked
again. Maybe the instructions given were for an older distro.

I still don't know why the modem cut out when using minicom. I created a new
connection using netcfg, and edited the pap-script as per someone's suggestion
on the list (complete with last line "expect }" which I never had the first
time) and it worked!

regards,
Andrew O'Callaghan
