2 ethernet P&P trouble AND The UNIX Guru's view of sex
Hi.
I'm trying to put 2 NIC's to work with Linux and having trouble.
The setup is: RH 6.0 Kernel 2.2.5-15, 2x 3Com 3C905B 100bTX
Each of the cards work separately, but when booting the two together,
the one in the lower slot won't boot.
>From /proc/pci:
Bus 0, device 13, function 0:
Ethernet controller: 3Com 3C905B 100bTX (rev 36).
Medium devsel. IRQ 9. Master Capable. Latency=64. Min
Gnt=10.Max Lat=10.
I/O at 0x6900 [0x6901].
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xe7001000 [0xe7001000].
Bus 0, device 15, function 0:
Ethernet controller: 3Com Unknown device (rev 36).
Vendor id=10b7. Device id=0.
Medium devsel. IRQ 11. Master Capable. Latency=64. Min
Gnt=10.Max Lat=5.
I/O at 0x6a00 [0x6a01].
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xe7002000 [0xe7002000].
If I change the order, the other one boots fine.
Now, for something real weird: The first time I composed this mail the
computer suddenly rebooted. It booted up, did the fsck, and then
everything worked correctly. Both the NIC's worked.
I have written the
alias eth0 3c59x
alias eth1 3c59x
in /etc/conf.modules and
append = "ether=0,0,eth1 ether=0,0,eth2 ether=0,0,eth3"
in lilo.conf and rerun lilo.
How to solve this mess, and put the two cards to work?

The UNIX Guru's view of sex
unzip ; strip ; touch ; finger ; mount ; fsck ; more ; yes ; umount;

Thank you.
