I mean as a case in linux, DHCP can be used to give dynamix or statis ips.
If he cant get the DHCP clilent to work and it gives the same static ip out
every time why bother with the client if you can just specify it in the
network  setup without haveing to worry about a non working DHCP client?

I know DHCP is nice stuff, saves alot of work, i ment as a mean to a end to
solve his provblem not heckling DHCP itself.
