I use Partition Magic alot. I have never had a problem with it. What version are
you using? I know that version 3 wasn't very good on stability but i have NEVER
had it crash or destroy even the smallest amount of data.
To answer the other question, no, partition magic will not run unless you
partition table is valid. Even the slightest error will cause it to stop dead in
its tracks before it even starts resizing. It can not find partition if they are
not in the partition table.
