RE: Banner adverts cont.
hmmm (replying to my own post... heh)
I've made these changes, and squid still manages to find places like
www.microsoft.com that I've added as 127.0.0.1 in my /etc/hosts file. Does
squid cache DNS searches? I've restarted squid, in this hope.. but no
avail.
Pinging www.microsoft.com from the linux machine results in:
PING www.microsoft.com (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=1.0 ms
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.2 ms
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.2 ms
which is good.
But pinging from my windows machine, which is set to use the linux server as
it's DNS server, results in:
c:\windows>ping www.microsoft.com
Pinging microsoft.com [207.46.131.13] with 32 bytes of data:
etc etc etc
Which is annoying.
What have I screwed up? Which services do I need to restart? Do I need to
restart anything on the linux machine?
So near.. yet...
