Re: Banner adverts cont.
Try editing /etc/nsswitch.conf and changing the line starting with hosts: to
put hosts: files ..... first. This will tell Linux networking to look at
your local files before going to DNS or NIS or NIS+ or anything else, to get
resolution (if nis or nis+ are configured of course)
If this doesn't help, try
man nsswitch.conf or
more /usr/doc/HOWTO/Net3-HOWTO (I think this is the one you need) or
more /usr/doc/HOWTO/NAMED-HOWTO ?!?!? If all else fails
grep nsswitch.conf /usr/doc/HOWTO and look at the files is reports back to
you.
