Don't think of root as a user, but a state of mind. You telnet in as
yourself and then (if you need to) you can assume the role of the great
enlightened one or 'root' as it's traditionally known.
You can gain root privileges (uid 0), a programme can run with root
privileges (uid 0) but you must still be yourself.

Nah. You always log in as yourself, even from the console, or you are not
yourself. Only maybe in runlevel 1 are root logins necessary.
