emac will do the job. There is also many other editors that work well.
I use jed (which uses emacs key layout), but you can use vi (I know it's
not user friendly but it has the best syntax highlighting). cide is
an integrated development suite. And there is much much more.
gcc will compile the stuff (just name you files .cpp or .c++)

Redhat does give an update option so you can avoid the reinstall.
