Yep your out of luck my friend.
Win modems cheat by using the CPU to do all hard work (such as
compression). The main reason linux does not support them is because the
specifications on how they work seem to be a closely kept secret.
If you can get the specs on how to interface the modem then me & the
linux-kernel mob will build you a driver. I don't like your chances though
:(
Quick tip to anyone considering buying an internal modem. It CAN be pci if
under plain old dos (no drivers - try a win boot disk) you can type:
ATH0 > com2 (or what ever port)
ATDT12345 > com2
you should hear the modem try to dial, if it doesn't it is maimed.
