What port are you plugging the mouse into (ps/2, com1, com2) and where
does /dev/mouse point (ie ls -l /dev/mouse)
Have you changed to the 2.2 kernels?
Can you look in /var/log/message and give us some detail about your setup
ie: mine contains:
Mar 18 08:27:14 Bytes4u kernel: Serial driver version 4.27 with SHARE_IRQ
enabled
Mar 18 08:27:14 Bytes4u kernel: ttyS00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
Mar 18 08:27:14 Bytes4u kernel: ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
Also: do the following:
startx 2> /tmp/startx.log
exit X windows.
Then look in /tmp/startx.log and show us your mouse line.
ie, mine contains:
(**) Mouse: type: MouseSystems, device: /dev/mouse, baudrate: 1200
(**) Mouse: buttons: 3
This should make it easier for us to solve the problem.
Cheers,
