PGP authenitication under linux for internic
Does anyone have experience with using the linux
signing program "pgps" for signing messages to Internic
(now Network Solutions)?
I've been trying various methods to sign messages to Internic
to modify domain name information, and the all fail.
I get messages like:
==============================================================
We are not able to verify the PGP signed message that you sent us. To
use PGP correctly, perform the following steps in the given order:
1. Register your public PGP key on our PGP key server. Send a message
to pgpreg@internic.net with a subject of HELP to find out how to
register your public PGP key with the InterNIC.
2. Once your public PGP key is registered on our PGP key server, use the
following PGP command on your system to SIGN a message:
pgp -sa template.txt
This command will generate an ASCII armor form of the message. Email
the ASCII armor form of the message to hostmaster@internic.net.
===============================================================
The trouble is that the linux version of PGP (pgp50i) does not use
the "pgp" command any more. It uses "pgps".
And I've tried "pgps" with various combinations of parameters
to create a signature, and the above is the result.
If I use "mutt" to do the PGP signing, Internic just ignores the
message, because Internic does not accept attachments or something.
By the way, my PGP key _is_ registered with Internic.
I got this acknowledgement:
=================================================================
Adding keys:
Key ring: 'incoming/83028'
Type Bits KeyID Created Expires Algorithm Use

Keys added successfully.

Someone out there must have used PGP successfully from linux, I hope.
Cheers,
Alan Kennington.
PS. By the way, the linux PGP works fine in other ways.
With a bit of fiddling, I can even exchange PGPed e-mails with
windows users.
PPS. Why is Linus Torvalds _really_ going to Moscow?
Slashdot says that the Russians say that he prefers the weather....
