Best video card for Linux?

Hi peoples, I am looking at upgrading my video card both for under linux
as well as windoze98.  I dont wnat to buy a card which is not supported
or limited in function under linux and so would like suggestions as to
what to buy.  It needs to be PCI and preferably 4mb or higher ram.

Also, has anyone had a problem where you get wavy lines appearing on
your screen.  I now get this having changed my motherboard and CPU.  The
lines sometimes go away, almost like interference??
