RE: Mouse locking up

Hi all,

I thought I might wade in on this.
If you are switching between boxes on a regular basis then
it probably is worth getting an electronic switch box.
This is because keyboard connectors (DIN5) and the newer
ATX systems with PS2 mouse and keyboard connectors are not
designed to be connected and disconnected while powered. I
have seen many +$200 motherboards thrown away because of a
blown $5 keyboard controller.

The electron boxes protect your computers by simulating the
presence of all devices even at bootup. Of course you don't
have to go for the top of the line Compaq model. Any decent
hardware vendor should be able to source a 4->1
(2xPS2 1xDIN5 1xSVGA 1xSerial 9pin) box for just over $500.
And you can even get hold of cable bundles so the back of
your box doesn't look like a bad pasta dish. :)

Anyway that is just my $0.02 + 22% sales tax.

Hi
I am new to this Linux also and installed the RedHat CD that came with APC
or some such mag. I have a multi server network and a Compaq
keyboard/mouse/screen switcher. It works fine. If you can afford about
A$1500 you can get one from your nearest Compaq dealer. It's bigger than
Ben Hurr , but works.
