Slow Server/Filesystem

I have a problem (which I originally thought was with cdrecord)
Able to read from /home, but really slow.
(It's in a logical partition.. see below.)

Machine: Pentium II 333MHz, 128Mb RAM
Linux: 2.0.34 (RedHat 5.1)
