Big disk drive + small PC + linux

Linux disk drive software experts,

I'd like to add a 10 GB disk to my Digital Venturis 466
computer with AMD 486DX-66 CPU etc.

I remember seeing somewhere that such old computers are not
able to address such a big disk, either (a) just at boot time
from the BIOS, or (b) at any time.
The OS is redhat 5.2 linux.
The disk will use the second IDE port. Apparently the secondary master
(/dev/hdb).
