Modem Sharing
Thanks to all who suggested Dialup/IP to let Win95/98 stations access a
modem on my Red Hat server. Along with a five-line Perl script found in
Friedemann Baitinger's mini-howto it seems to work like a charm - and so
much faster than things like Modemshare under Windows.
But .... Dialup/IP can't handle Winfax (and other fax packages??) because
as they say:
As a TCP/IP-based product, DialOut/IP has one basic limitation: it is not
able to present serial line control and status signal information on its
virtual COM ports. Once relevant protocols are agreed and supported by
modem pool manufacturers, this limitation will be eliminated. In the
meantime, applications that require access to serial line control and
status signals will not always function properly
Does anyone have any ways round this?
Cheers
Mick
