KDE and Qt [Qt now free]

Topics:
- Qt is now free

A while back I saw an explanation of why KDE was not included
in the redhat 5.2 disk.
It had something to do with the subtelties of the Qt licence.

In the French linux users e-mail list, I've just received news that
to rectify this situation, Qt is now free.

I'll append the e-mail.

Cheers,
Alan Kennington.

PS. There's a very pleasing linux + corel item at

    http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/1998/45/ns-6073.html

PPS. slashdot.org has an item saying that there _may_ be an announcment
about Qt. But AFUL has it already in France.

   Qt devient libre
[Auteur: [1]Stéfane Fermigier. Source: [2]Francois Fleuret.]

D'après [3]cette annonce sur le site de Troll Tech, la version
gratuite (free) de la librairie graphique Qt va devenir libre (Open
   Source):

Troll Tech AS today announced that the Free Edition of Qt, its
popular Graphical User Interface toolkit, will be released under an
Open Source license. With the new license, programmers will be able
to distribute and share any modifications they make to the Qt Free
Edition. The lack of such permission in the previous Free Edition
license has been the source of some dispute in parts of the Linux
community since KDE, the widely used Linux desktop environment, is
     based on Qt Free Edition.

Cette annonce concerne la version 2.0 à venir de la librairie, qui
sera diffusée sous une license baptisée [4]QPL.
