just as a quick suggestion. Try running a good anti-virus program on your
machine. I suggest VET AV. I had that problem on my Windows 98 machine a while
ago, caused by the Win95.CIH (spacefiller) virus.

This may not be your problem, but it never hurts to check right?  :)

BTW, I'm running a linux gateway, well i was till it died, and I didn't have a
problem with downloaded files. The only thing I had a problem with was people
could not direct-send files to me through ICQ. Apart from that, not a problem
:)
